This chair is related to the Fort St George chairs, page 176-177, figure 75 in Catalogue 32 in Amin Jaffer's book Furniture from British India and Ceylon. It is perhaps the only piece of furniture of this date, made in Vizagapatam, using Abalone for the inlay instead of ivory. It is therefore an extremely rare object, a chair which represents the crossing of cultures, those of India, China and Europe.
