A Pair Bud Vases

Stamped “OM”

Silver gilt

Height: 15.5cms

This exceptional pair of silver gilt bud vases was made by Oomersi Mawji. The inspiration for their organic shapes may well have been the Salomónica columns of Bernini's Baldacchino at St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican  It is known that Mawji was aware of Renaissance sculpture, as can be evidenced by his classical figure formerly in the the Bulgari collection in Rome.  It is to be noted that the use of silver gilt by Mawji is very rare.

Mawji may well have had this Piranesi print is his possession, which shows the columns.
